This course introduces the language of drawing and the use of various drawing materials. Emphasis is placed on drawing techniques, media, and graphic principles. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate competence in the use of graphic form and various drawing processes.
This assignment introduces students to how light and shadow can describe a form or space.
For this assignment, students complete a drawing in three stages, building observational skills as you go, focusing on describing a sense of volume.
Students familiarize themselves with the decontextualization of artistic strategy and at the same time, critique and parody contemporary life, in which pop culture plays such a crucial role. Students investigate the technique of chiaroscuro to represent the portraits and other scenes of this particular era. They take photographs of a portrait (or self portrait) of classic horror monster from the era of black and white television to translate into a contour drawing and study the high contrast values present. Printed images of the photo will serve as reference in order to create representational drawings and paintings with the chiaroscuro technique.
This exercise focuses on studying the planes and proportions of the face. Through observation of the Asaro Head studies and life drawng models.
The objective of this assignment is for student’s to successfully understand and execute realistic renderings of an interior or exterior space of their choosing while simultaneously rendering realistic of a subject matter of their choice within that space. Challenging their creative thinking, the subject matter and space must contrast. These works will be inspired by the concept of “Isekai” - a subgenre of portal fantasy. It includes novels, light novels, films, manga, anime, and video games that revolve around a displaced person or people
