About

Devann Donovan is an interdisciplinary artist and educator originally from Murrells Inlet, SC. Her practice explores memory, nostalgia, and the malleability of personal history through textiles, painting, sculpture, and expanded media. She investigates how her kitsch childhood, pop culture, television, and nostalgic anemoia shape identity and distort personal history. Drawing from the characters, objects, and visual culture that populated her upbringing, Donovan examines the ways cultural artifacts become intertwined with memory, blurring the boundaries between experience and narrative.

Donovan earned her MFA from Winthrop University and has been exhibited throughout the Carolinas, nationally and internationally. She has taught workshops and educational programming with Cain Center for the Arts, Cabarrus Arts Council, Arts Council of York County and other arts organizations. She is a Visual Art Professor at Central Piedmont Community College and co-founder of Carolina Current Artist Collective, a multidisciplinary network supporting contemporary artists across the Carolinas.
